This page explains how we use personal data, the rules for using WatchMeBurn, and how to contact us about a comment, privacy issue or legal concern.

privacy.

what we collect.

When you use the Coming Soon version of WatchMeBurn, we may collect:

waitlist data

  • your email address;
  • the date and time you joined;
  • limited source/referrer or campaign information where needed to understand how people found WatchMeBurn.

comments and reactions

  • comments you choose to post;
  • the pseudonymous identifier shown with your comment;
  • reaction/action state needed to operate felt., comment. and share.;
  • timestamps and basic moderation records.

technical and analytics data

  • coarse device type, browser family and viewport size;
  • the host a referral came from, and which page or action an event relates to;
  • your IP address, which we never store: our abuse limits use a short-lived one-way hash of it, and our hosting provider generates its own request and security logs;
  • aggregate statistics about how the site is used.

We do not use Coming Soon analytics for advertising, cross-site tracking or profiling people.

We do not put email addresses or raw comment text into analytics event properties.

why we use it.

We use personal data to:

  • operate the Coming Soon site and its interactions;
  • store and display comments you choose to submit;
  • maintain security, prevent abuse and moderate content;
  • manage the WatchMeBurn waitlist, and send you the short note on joining, the launch notification and the occasional important product updates you asked for;
  • understand, in aggregate, whether the service is working and how it can be improved;
  • respond to privacy, legal and takedown requests;
  • comply with legal obligations where required.

Our main legal bases under UK data protection law are:

  • consent for waitlist emails. You can withdraw this at any time;
  • legitimate interests in operating, securing, improving and moderating the service, including displaying comments people deliberately submit;
  • legal obligation where we need to process information to comply with the law.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we use data only where those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.

waitlist emails.

If you join the waitlist, we’ll send you a short note straight away, then use your email to tell you when WatchMeBurn launches and to send occasional important product updates.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email or by contacting hello@watchmeburn.com.

We won’t use your email for unrelated marketing without an appropriate legal basis.

analytics and storage on your device.

Our analytics are first-party. Events are written to WatchMeBurn’s own PostgreSQL database and are not sent to any third-party analytics service. There is no analytics SDK and no third-party analytics script on this site.

An event records what happened and the coarse context around it: the action name, a session identifier, the page, the host a referral came from, campaign parameters where present, coarse device type and browser family, and viewport size. Email addresses, comment text and IP addresses are never written to analytics.

We do not use advertising pixels, cross-service tracking, profiling or session replay in the Coming Soon release.

Where we rely on the UK PECR statistical-purposes exception for storage/access technologies, the information is used only to produce aggregate statistics for improving this service and you can object free of charge using the control below.

analytics: on

If our analytics setup later changes in a way that requires consent, we will ask before those technologies run.

who we share data with.

We use service providers to run WatchMeBurn.

hosting
Vercel Inc. Serves the site and runs its server-side functions. Vercel also generates its own request and security logs.
database
Neon, providing the managed PostgreSQL database in which waitlist signups, comments and analytics events are stored. Our database is hosted in London, United Kingdom.
waitlist / email
Resend. It receives an email address only at the moment a message is sent to it; our own record of your signup is held in our database, not by Resend. We do not maintain a mailing list inside Resend.
analytics
None external. Analytics are stored in WatchMeBurn’s own PostgreSQL database and are not shared with any third-party analytics provider.

They may process information for us only for the services they provide and subject to their contractual/data-protection obligations.

We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect legal rights or safety, or in connection with a corporate transaction involving WatchMeBurn.

international transfers.

Where your data is processed today:

  • the database holding waitlist signups, comments and analytics is hosted in London, United Kingdom;
  • email is sent through infrastructure in Ireland;
  • the server-side functions that run this site currently execute in the United States, so information you submit is processed there in transit;

Where UK data protection law requires safeguards for a transfer outside the UK, those transfers are made under our providers’ data processing terms and the transfer mechanisms they offer.

how long we keep data.

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected.

In particular:

  • waitlist data is kept while you remain subscribed and through the relevant launch period, then deleted or retained only where you have chosen an ongoing relationship with WatchMeBurn;
  • comments are kept while they remain part of the service, unless removed by you/us or retention is needed for a legitimate moderation or legal reason;
  • moderation and legal records are kept only as long as reasonably necessary to handle the relevant issue;
  • technical/security logs are kept for the shortest period reasonably required for security, troubleshooting and legal obligations;
  • individual-level analytics information, if temporarily processed to create statistics, is not retained longer than needed to produce the aggregate result.

your rights.

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to:

  • access your personal data;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • ask us to delete data;
  • restrict certain processing;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive certain data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time where consent is the legal basis.

To exercise a right, email hello@watchmeburn.com.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe your personal data has been handled unlawfully.

children.

WatchMeBurn is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. Joining the waitlist relies on consent, which a child under 13 cannot give us.

The Coming Soon release is built to hold as little about anyone as possible: there are no accounts, no profiles, no advertising, no profiling, no cross-site tracking, no session replay, no private messaging and no replies. Comments appear under a pseudonymous identifier rather than a name.

We have not applied an age gate to the Coming Soon release. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email hello@watchmeburn.com and we will delete it.

terms + comment rules.

By using WatchMeBurn or posting a comment, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not post a comment.

what watchmeburn is.

The Coming Soon service is an early version of WatchMeBurn.

It is being used to test the product before full launch.

Features, availability and content may change, pause or stop.

WatchMeBurn presents data-led burns designed to make a piece of reality easy to understand and react to.

burns, figures and sources.

Burns may use estimates, modelling, annualised figures or other transformations of source data.

Where that happens, the source/methodology shown with the burn is part of the content and should be read with the headline figure.

We try to use credible sources and describe estimates honestly, but we do not promise that every figure is complete, error-free, current in real time or suitable for making financial, legal, medical, employment or other important decisions.

WatchMeBurn is not professional advice.

If we discover a material error, we may correct, annotate or remove a burn.

comments.

The Coming Soon version allows top-level comments on burns created by WatchMeBurn.

It does not provide replies, private messaging or user-created burns.

You are responsible for what you submit.

Do not post content that:

  • is unlawful;
  • is defamatory or knowingly false about an identifiable person or organisation;
  • threatens, harasses or abuses someone;
  • reveals another person's private or confidential information without a lawful basis;
  • infringes copyright, trade marks or other intellectual-property rights;
  • impersonates another person or misrepresents who you are;
  • contains spam, scams, malicious links or automated promotional material;
  • is intended to interfere with, damage or misuse the service.

We may remove or restrict content where we reasonably believe it breaks these rules, creates legal/safety risk, is abusive/spam, or otherwise threatens the integrity of WatchMeBurn.

We may preserve relevant information where reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, respond to a legal request or protect rights and safety.

your comment licence.

You keep any rights you have in a comment you submit.

By posting it, you give WATCHMEBURN LTD a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, format, display and distribute that comment as reasonably necessary to operate, moderate and share the WatchMeBurn service.

This licence does not give us ownership of your comment.

our content and brand.

Except for user comments and third-party material identified as such, WatchMeBurn's site design, original copy, branding and product content belong to WATCHMEBURN LTD or its licensors.

You may share burns using the sharing tools provided, but you may not copy or commercially exploit substantial parts of the service as your own product without permission.

availability and liability.

We may change, suspend or withdraw all or part of the Coming Soon service.

To the extent permitted by law, WATCHMEBURN LTD is not responsible for losses caused by relying on a burn as professional advice, by third-party websites/services, or by events outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where the law does not allow us to do so, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

law.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer, you retain any mandatory rights you have under the law applicable to you and any right to bring proceedings in a court available to you under applicable law.

contact + takedowns.

For privacy requests, legal notices, or to ask us to review/remove a comment, email hello@watchmeburn.com.

For a comment report, please include enough information for us to find it — ideally the page URL, the pseudonymous username, and the reason for your request.

We will review reports and may remove, restrict or preserve content depending on the circumstances and our legal obligations.
